About Me

My name is Shakeel Islam, and I am a dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in Intellectual Disabilities (ID) with a particular focus on Autism. With over 12 years of experience, I have been working within the National Health Service (NHS) since 2009, serving individuals with diverse needs across the country.

Throughout my career, I have developed expertise in utilising various structured assessment tools, including ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2), ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised), and ACIA (Autism Classification System of Functioning: A Clinician's Guide). These tools allow for a comprehensive and accurate evaluation of individuals on the autism spectrum.

Currently, I am proud to be a part of a leading mental health trust in London, where I continue to provide specialised care and support to individuals with Intellectual Disabilities and Autism. I am deeply committed to helping individuals understand and navigate their unique challenges, promoting their well-being and overall quality of life.

I believe in a person-centred approach, tailoring interventions and support to meet each individual's specific needs. Through my compassionate and comprehensive assessments, I strive to provide accurate diagnoses that address the unique strengths and difficulties of each individual.

I am dedicated to staying up-to-date with the latest research and developments in the field of Autism and Intellectual Disabilities, ensuring that my practice is informed by evidence-based approaches.

My ultimate goal is to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals on the Autism spectrum and their families.

Outside of my professional work, I am proud to be a father of two wonderful children who bring immense joy to my life.

During my spare time, I indulge in a few hobbies that bring me relaxation and fulfilment. I find great satisfaction in DIY projects, using my skills to tackle various home improvement tasks. Woodworking has also become a passion of mine, allowing me to unleash my creativity and craft unique pieces. I also enjoy the art of cooking. There's something truly satisfying about preparing a delicious meal from scratch and sharing it with loved ones.

And, of course, I must confess my affinity for Star Trek. The captivating stories, futuristic settings, and thought-provoking themes have captured my imagination since I was young. Exploring the vastness of space through this beloved series brings me a sense of wonder and fascination!
